Equestrian Heelan Tompkins has got off to a good start in her quest to make the New Zealand Olympic team after she and mount Sugoi gave a polished dressage performance at the Mitavite International Horse Trial at Kihikihi near Te Awamutu today.

Tompkins is competing in the FEI World Cup Eventing class and leads after the dressage phase with a score of 52.6. Anne-Marie Styles on Opera Groove are in second position while last years winner Clarke Johnstone aboard Oakley Vision lie third.

The Mitavite International Horse Trial continues tomorrow with the cross country phase and concludes on Sunday with show jumping.

Tompkins hopes that a good performance at Kihikihi this weekend will be enough to make the Olympic team.
