2000 "mad mountain bikers" are getting ready to descend on Rotorua for the weekend May 09 and 10 for the largest 24 hour mountain bike event in the country - the Cateye Moonride.

This unique, exhilarating ride is a “not to be missed” event on the mountain-biking calendar and is held in the world famous Whakarewarewa Forest on the doorstep of Rotorua city. Individuals or teams of four/five compete in either the Avanti 12 Hour event which runs from 10am – 10pm Saturday or the Specialized 24 Hour event which starts 10pm Friday night and runs right through to 10pm Saturday.

All competitors ride the same spectacular 8km course that is specially designed to cater for riders of all abilities.

There is as much action off the track as on it as the Waipa Mill site is transformed into a magical “tent-city” where 2000 mountain bikers and their support crews all set up camp. They remain camped for the duration of the action that always provides an excess of hilarity, challenges, sweat, toil and above all – a level of enjoyment second to none.

Make sure you are part of the action, grab a group of friends, work mates or family together and join the excitement, the thrills and the buzz of the Cateye Moonride. Entries are still open and entry forms are available from your local bike shop, fitness centre or from the event website www.moonride.co.nz
