New platform for Ranui rail commuters
From Monday 5 May, passengers using the Ranui train station will use a new platform – located opposite the existing station platform – to catch the train as Auckland's rail upgrade progresses further.
The existing platform will be closed to permit works to complete the extension of the platform for six-car trains and final track works. The Ranui train station upgrade is targeted for completion in mid-2008.
The new platform has been built as part of the ongoing regional rail upgrade project. The work is being done by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) who is responsible for improving rail stations and giving Aucklanders more frequent and reliable train services, and rail network provider ONTRACK who are building new tracks and platforms and upgrading signalling, with project support from local councils.
Clear signage will be in place at the Ranui train station to ensure that passengers know where to catch their train from, and ARTA and ONTRACK are working closely with train operator Veolia Transport to minimise passenger disruption as work continues to upgrade the network.
Passengers should allow more time for their journey to the station while they get used to the new access arrangements and, for their own safety, are reminded to only cross the tracks at official crossings and to stay out of construction areas.
