Civil engineer with extensive local and international experience appointed Group Manager Works and Services at Franklin District Council
Sally Davis, Franklin CEO, said this morning “I am delighted to announce that Barry Bergin will be joining FDC as the new GM Works & Services. Barry is an experienced civil engineer, with a background in senior engineering and general management.”
“He is currently manager of the Utilities Works Unit at Hamilton City Council, and has previously held roles as General Manager Community Services with Waipa District Council, as well as acting Water & Waste Services Manager at Hamilton City. Earlier in his career, Barry worked as a design and construction engineer in the UK, the highlight being two years in charge of construction of part of the Channel Tunnel.”
“Barry is committed to professional project management and has a highly disciplined approach to delivering projects. This is important to ensure that sufficient effort is put into forward planning, programming, risk management and sound financial management of projects - skills which Franklin needs to ensure the quality delivery of its key infrastructure projects to support the District's growth.”
When he accepted the appointment, Barry said, “I am very much looking forward to working in Franklin. From what I have seen to date, it is a great community. I will be taking up my new role mid August and I am really keen to take up the challenges that this role offers me.”
