The community is being encouraged to have a close-up inspection of the new Queenstown Aquatic Centre this weekend,” Queenstown Lakes District Council communications manager Meaghan Miller said.

“This will be the first opportunity to have a really good look around the inside of the complex, climb the hydro-slide mountain and generally take a sneak preview before the centre opens on 31 May,” Ms Miller said.

Tickets had been issued to schools and community groups and organisations for training swims before the opening and some spaces had been set aside to give away on Saturday.

“The first ten people to sign up to a membership will receive ten tickets each to a training session before the pool opens,” she said.

The open day was strictly a ‘dry’ run.

“As tempting as it may look there are safety and training issues that must be signed off before the public can enter the pool so unfortunately the togs will have to stay home on Saturday,” she said.

The open day would take place on Saturday from 10-12.30.
