Claims that Manukau’s new rail station will be a long walk from buses are wrong, Manukau City Council says.

Transport Group Manager Chris Freke says trains will actually arrive at a bus and rail interchange when the new Manukau rail link opens.

“There will be less than 50 metres to walk between buses and trains. People definitely won’t have to walk 800 metres.

“The plan has always been to move bus services so they connect directly with trains when the new rail link opens. Manukau is expected to be a major transport hub for buses and trains,” Mr Freke says.

He says the transport interchange will be in a location that is convenient for people coming to the city centre.

“Development of the city centre is expected to be focused in the Davies Avenue and Hayman Park area, meaning the highest numbers of people will be close to the station.”

The transport interchange will have space for at least eight bus bays. There will also be other bus stops close to the Westfield shopping mall.
