Dunedin Public Libraries is about to open an exciting new space dedicated to teenagers in its City Library branch in Moray Place. The launch, taking place on Sunday 25 May 1.00pm, will be followed by a week long home- grown party, featuring some of Dunedin’s talented young musicians and performers from the Dunedin City area.
Artists scheduled to perform include:
Thelonius, Globe Kings, Hazel Dawson and Katherine Ralph, Bayfield High School Jazz Band, Logan Park High School Jazz Band, Hoodoo Voodoo, Quartteto Baltica, Otago Girls High School Jazz Band, Fun Time, Te Fakahinga Mai Boiz, Corwin Newall and Dominic Angelo-Laloli, Anna and Kristin Macdonald, Nadia Reid, Sewage, Tigerzone, Gypsy Band, Indian Dance, and Queen Anne’s Revenge.

Consultation with youth, through the Library’s participation in the just completed annual Dunedin Youth Expo, along with the Dunedin City Council’s Youth Action Committee, has led to the development of an innovative space, which has a distinctly expressive teen look and feel!

“We have no doubt that this new space will be popular and well used. It is a fine mix of retro furniture, original art by young local artists, digital touch screen listening posts with cordless headphones, a wide screen TV, free Internet access, the latest books, graphic novels, magazines, CDs, and movies” says Sue Ikin, Young Adult Librarian.

The timing of the opening was deliberately planned to coincide with NZ Music Month and National Youth Week.
