Ever wondered how you can protect the biodiversity on your farm without sacrificing production or flexibility? If so, the Otago Regional Council's (ORC) biodiversity field day at McGill's Owaka property is for you.

The field day will focus on what is special about local biodiversity and the different options for managing biodiversity for future generations including QEII covenants.

ORC Director of Environmental Information and Science Dr John Threlfall said talks will also centre on how biodiversity protection can be integrated into farm management to complement rather than clash with traditional farming objectives. The McGill's experiences with managing biodiversity on their property will also be drawn upon.

The main speakers on the day will be environmental and forestry consultant Rhys Millar and ecologist Robin Mitchell.

The field day is being held on Bruce and Denise McGill's Newhaven Road farm from 1.30 to 3.30pm on Thursday 29 May. It is aimed at all farmers, but is free and open to any interested members of the public.
