One of the many highlights for Youth Week next week will be the visit of high profile psychologist Nigel Latta. Mr Latta will be speaking at all four secondary schools in the District and at a tickets-only luncheon on Tuesday 27 May 2008.

Mr Latta, born and raised in Oamaru, is a registered clinical psychologist and author. He attended Waitaki Boys High School and went on to study at Otago University, where he completed an MSc in Marine Science. Moving to Auckland, he trained as a clinical psychologist and for 17 years worked in a number of agencies dealing with child sex offenders, rapists, murderers and violent offenders. He now lives in Dunedin with his wife and children.

Mr Latta is being brought to Oamaru in conjunction with Waitaki Youth Support Network, and supported by the Oamaru Licensing Charitable Trust, Waitaki District Council and Community Workers Trust.

Spokesperson for the Waitaki Youth Support Network, Alison Banks, said the group is very excited to be able to bring such a high profile speaker into the community, and that the topic “What the wider world holds for our Youth” is very appropriate for Youth Week.

Just over 70 tickets have been sold for the luncheon to be held at the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel. Anyone wanting to purchase tickets can do so by calling into Oamaru’s Work and Income office on Coquet Street. Ticket numbers are limited.
