Please diary the dates Sunday 10th until Saturday 16th June when Brain Injury Awareness Week will be held throughout New Zealand this year.


Brain injuries disrupt the lives of tens of thousands of New Zealanders and their families every year. An astonishing ninety of us sustain a brain injury every day - and that is a conservative figure!


A very topical "Face" of the week

The person chosen to be the "face" of Brain Injury Awareness Week this year is a living reminder that half of all brain injuries are the result of road crashes. He story is especially topical at a time when there is immense public concern about drink driving.


He is an outstanding young Maori sportsman whose Olympic kayaking dreams were shattered by a drunk driver, inflicting horrific head and other injuries. Partially recovered, Gisborne's Tamati Paul now enthrals secondary school and other audiences with his inspirational story and advocacy of right choices around driving and alcohol.
