Next week will see the beginning of a round of public meetings to give people an opportunity to air their views on proposed roading service standards for the Waitaki District.

These standards have been reviewed in response to the projected needs of the District's land transport system over the next ten years. The proposed changes will have an impact on future rate requirements.

The first public meeting will be in the Papakaio Community Centre on Thursday 12 June at 7pm, followed by a meeting at the Otematata Lakes Centre on Tuesday 17th June at 7pm. Residents in Oamaru will have their chance to provide their feedback at a meeting at the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel on Tuesday 24th June, 7pm.

In addition the public are invited to attend a presentation on Roading Levels of Service, which will be given at the Palmerston Service Centre (at the Waihemo Community Board meeting) on Monday 9th June, 7pm.

A Statement of Proposal on roading containing detailed information and a summary of this is now available. The summary will also be published in this week’s edition of the Waitaki Herald. These documents are also available from Council: through the Council website www.waitaki.govt.nz; by emailing csunit@waitaki.govt.nz ; by phoning (03) 433 0300; or by visiting Council service centres in Oamaru and Palmerston, Oamaru Public Library, Kurow Community Centre, and Hampden, Kurow, Otematata and Omarama Libraries.

Submissions will close on Monday 30 June at 5pm and will be heard by Council on the 8th July. The consultation is being undertaken to help Council prepare information for the 2009 - 2019 Waitaki Community Plan.
