DANNEVIRKE

June can officially be called a winter month but the Dannevirke Town Centre upgrade project has been fortunate to have workable weather through all the recent weeks. Moving south now on the west side between Gordon and Ward streets the contractors are laying heavy decorative Marshall kerb blocks to form the street edge. All the way to the BP Station the long straight High St footpaths will be laid with continuous “perfecta” paving, ‘cut in’ with transverse grey “conservation” double paver bands. A very bold and beautiful effect.

The District Council and Contract staff are grateful and encouraged by the patience and positivity shown in general by the public and businesses.

Council reminds everyone that the pedestrian crossing on High St between the Rangitane O Tamaki Nui A Rua building (Dannevirke’s old Post Office) and Wilson’s Pharmacy is now closed and will soon be permanently removed. This was always part of the original refurbishment plan.

We also ask drivers of mobility scooters to be particularly careful when approaching the footpath works. Signage and orange barriers will give warning of obstacles ahead and the low ground clearance scooters are best to avoid these areas. This may include the need to cross to the other side of High St. The Contractor’s staff will always assist with directions or a give helping hand if asked. All people are asked to be vigilant and careful around the site works.
