Maraetai Walkway Protest to Go Ahead
The Maraetai Walkway protest will still go ahead on Saturday at 2:00pm at the site of the environmental vandalism on Maraetai Reserve.
Protest organiser, Chris Shirley said “The concrete may have been laid, but the residents will continue to put up a fight against the Manukau City Council and their indifference to public opinion about the walkway.”
“The issue is now about democratic process” continued Mr Shirley, “and that the wishes of the community listened to and acted upon, and not fobbed off with a ‘we know best’ attitude. The community have to live with the results of their decisions and actions.“
“All along the community have expressed that the walkway captures the existing character of the area and complement and enhance the natural environment. People come to Maraetai for the beach and open space, away from their concrete filled suburbs.”
