Public consultation on roading levels of service for the Waitaki District will close on Monday 30 June. Council encourages residents to have their say on proposed roading service standards, which have been reviewed in response to the projected needs of the District’s land transport system over the next ten years. The proposed changes will have an impact on future rate requirements.

Three public meetings have been held during the consultation period. To date, only a small number of submissions have been received on roading issues. The Council’s Assets Group Manager, Neil Jorgensen, said, “The consultation being undertaken on roading will help set future service standards and will impact on the level of rates people pay. It is important that residents take this opportunity to tell the Council what kind of roading standards they would like in place in the future.”

Council has prepared a Statement of Proposal on roading and a summary of what is proposed. These documents are available from Council: and can be accessed on the website www.waitaki.govt.nz; by emailing: csunit@waitaki.govt.nz; or by phoning (03) 433 0300.

Submissions will close on Monday 30 June at 5pm and submission hearings will be held on 8th July. The consultation is being undertaken to help Council to prepare information for its 2009 – 2019 Waitaki Community Plan.
