WANAKA

Wanaka’s newest luxury retreat has just opened and it’s a tribute to its spectacular surroundings and modern New Zealand design and craftsmanship.

Designed by Queenstown architect Mark Scaife, release makes the most of its breathtaking views over Lake Wanaka to the mountains of Treble Cone, Black Peak and Sharks Tooth.

Release accommodates six adults and was painstakingly built by business partners and craftsmen Nick Hay and Nick Frame.

It all began eight years ago when Nick and Nick met in Honduras. They later lived in the same village in Colorado and came up with the idea of building a luxury eco retreat as a base for one-off adventures.

After years of exploring the world, Nick and Nick decided to base their retreat in Wanaka surrounded by the Southern Alps.

“Release is the total New Zealand experience set in one of the most inspiring parts of the country,” said Frame.

The retreat is an example to others incorporating passive solar design, solar hot water technologies, wool insulation and water conservation systems.

Release showcases the raw sophistication of New Zealand design – from the unique hand crafted furniture and designer home wares, to the contemporary artworks. Guests will find the wine cabinet stocked with premium local pinot and a chef available to create five star fayre from local organic ingredients.

“It all adds up to an extremely personalised experience and an energising retreat from which to explore the Alps,” said Frame.

“Release travellers will be coming here to experience something different, authentic and meaningful. Ice climbing, heli skiing and hunter-gatherer trips can all be arranged – in fact, whatever you desire, we can make it happen.

“We think of Release as a secret place to escape to – whether it’s a few friends taking time out or a corporate team looking for fresh inspiration,” concluded Frame.
