Public Citizenship Ceremony To Welcome Six New Citizens of New Zealand
Mayor Alex Familton will welcome six Waitaki residents to New Zealand when they are sworn in as New Zealand citizens at a public ceremony in the Waitaki District Council Chamber at 3.30pm on Monday 21 July.
Citizenship certificates will be presented to five former residents of Britain and one former resident of the Philippines. Each of the six new citizens will have taken the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance, declaring that they will honour the Queen, obey the laws of New Zealand and be a good citizen.
Those to receive New Zealand citizenship are: from Britain, Mr Kevin Beresford Black, Mr Gilbert Mcwhirter, Mrs Jennifer Mcwhirter, Mr Neil George Mcwhirter and Miss Karen Mary Mcwhirter and from the Phillipines Mrs Shirley Tuto Collins.
The citizenship ceremony is an opportunity for the new citizens to publicly declare their allegiance to New Zealand and for the local community to welcome them on behalf of all New Zealanders.
