Franklin District Council’s elected members and staff had the opportunity to try a short obstacle course wearing ‘fatal vision goggles’ before today’s Activity and Monitoring Committee meeting. The goggles were brought to Council by Katya from the Brain Injury Association and they simulate the effect of approximately 70mg of alcohol per 100 ml blood on coordination and perception skills. The obstacle course, which was easy to navigate without the goggles, was not successfully completed by anyone when wearing the goggles.

During the Activity and Monitoring Committee meeting, Franklin District Council authorised Chief Executive, Sally Davis, to support the Point Zero Five Campaign which recommends lowering the legal blood alcohol concentration for driving to 50mg alcohol per 100ml blood for adult drivers (the current legal limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100mg blood).
