Arrowtown residents are being urged to get proactive about air pollution in the town and attend a ‘clean air expo’ this weekend.

An initiative of the Arrowtown Clean Air and Warm Homes Trust the expo would offer residents everything they needed to know about heating insulation and energy options, Trust spokeman Gerard Hall said.

“The initiative is a chance for residents to attend an expo right here at Arrowtown and get to know and understand both the problem and the various solutions,” Mr Hall said.

Arrowtown continued to register ‘high pollution days’ exceeding the National Environmental Standards for air quality.

“The pollution values should not exceed 50 micrograms per cubic metre. This year so far Arrowtown has exceeded that level 32 times. The worst recorded level being 126 micrograms per cubic metre. It’s a major health risk,” QLDC Arrowtown councillor and trustee John Wilson said.

He encouraged residents to get along to the expo.

The Trust was working on a number of initiatives to help Arrowtown residents to help themselves to improve the health and well being of the town, the expo being one of the first.

The expo would be held at the Athenaeum Hall this Saturday and Sunday (2-3 August) from 10-4pm.

“Admission is free so there is no reason why we should not see all residents at some point this weekend,” Mr Gerard Hall said.

The expo was sponsored by Ray White and Newman Real Estate.
