A pump failure means water temperatures at the AC Baths are a little cooler than normal until the middle of next week

A pool pump failure on Wednesday night is causing a gradual cooling of the temperatures at AC Baths. Group Manager Peter Martyn says a part has been ordered, however it needs to come from Australia so temperatures may not be back to normal until late next week “we will make repairs as soon as we receive the part, but it takes a little while to get the temperatures back to normal after they have dropped. We may not be back to normal until around the 15th or 16th of August, all going well.”

Client Services Supervisor Leigh Austin says temperatures are being displayed at reception at the AC Baths so swimmers can check them on arrival. She says “the temperature Board at reception is being updated five times a day so there won’t be any surprises when people jump into the pool! If anyone has an enquiry they can call the AC Baths on 376 0350.”

Ms Austin advises that due to these problems the following changes to the schedule have been made:
§ Lil Hancock’s Aquatic classes are cancelled all of next week (Mon 11 Aug – Sun 17 Aug)
§ Swim academy swimming lessons are cancelled from Monday to Wednesday but may resume on Thursday if temperatures are back to normal.
§ Pool membership card holders who present their card at reception will be given a one week extension to their membership.

Mr Martyn says the 24 hour Swim for Life marathon, due to kick off this afternoon (Friday 8 August) will go ahead as planned, “the pool is not freezing, just a little cooler than normal and shouldn’t cause any major problems.”

He also said the 25 metre indoor pool would be closed next Monday to Friday for maintenance anyway, “this was already planned so we have made arrangements for this previously. It is unrelated to the problems with the pump.”

Taupo District Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
