Local burger connoisseurs will be able to satisfy their taste for Bastards and Bacon Backfires this weekend when BurgerFuel officially opens its first store in Johnsonville.

The 100% New Zealand-owned and operated gourmet burger chain is known for its irreverently named burgers made with fresh natural ingredients and home-made sauces.

On Saturday 30 August celebrations will kick off when the store opens for its first “cook-off” and franchisee owner Barry Malcolm invites locals, friends and family to attend.

Barry says BurgerFuel would like to rename Johnsonville “JohnsonFuel” in celebration of the store’s arrival. Submissions for the council are currently being prepared by the BurgerFuel legal department.

“We’ll be serving our delicious menu range in an atmosphere as fuelled as our food.”

“Locals and keen Wellingtonian BurgerFuel VIBs (Very Important Burger Connoisseurs) will no longer have to go into the city or over to Lower Hutt to get a great bite to eat,” Barry says.

Although classics like the V8 Vegan (vegetarian), Ford Freakout, Ring Burner and Peanut Piston remain favourites, BurgerFuel is not just about burgers. Barry says other menu options such as their Low Carbo-Rator range of wraps, gluten free buns, and their recently launched Mini Burger range (especially for kids or those with smaller appetites) are finding favour with regulars at Wellington’s two BurgerFuel stores.

Barry says he expects Johnsonville locals to enjoy the same experience as their Courtenay Place and Lower Hutt friends.

BurgerFuel now has a total of 25 stores in New Zealand and two in Sydney, Australia.

BurgerFuel will open in Dubai later this year, the first outside of Australasia.

The first BurgerFuel store opened 13 years ago in Ponsonby Rd, Auckland.
