NORTH SHORE CITY

North Shore City Council will be hosting a welcome home motorcade for its local Olympians this Friday, September 5.

Mayor Andrew Williams says that around a quarter of the New Zealand Olympic team has some connection to the North Shore and it is a privilege to honour them.

Among those taking part is gold medal winning boardsailor Tom Ashley.

The Olympians will take part in a convoy around the North Shore, which will leave Devonport Primary School at midday and culminate in a civic ceremony at the North Shore City Council.

“The procession will give the whole of the North Shore a chance to congratulate the athletes and show them how proud we all are of their efforts and success," says Mayor Williams.

“We know the hard work that goes into training for the Olympics, and North Shore residents are likely to have often seen Olympians in the gym, on the road, in the sea or on Lake Pupuke training in their various disciplines.”
The motorcade will pass North Shore schools and through the North Shore’s town centres including Devonport, Forrest Hill, Mairangi Bay, Browns Bay, Albany, Glenfield, Birkenhead, Northcote, Milford and finish in Takapuna.
It will stop momentarily at Devonport Primary, Westlake Boys High School, Northcross Intermediate, Pinehill School, Albany School, Manuka Primary, Birkdale Primary and Northcote Intermediate.
Tom Ashley is an old boy of Westlake Boys High School and Devonport Primary.
