Christchurch teenager Sophie Pascoe has won her second gold medal in consecutive nights after easily finishing first in the IM 200m race.

Pascoe won in a time of 2 minutes 35.21 seconds with her nearest rival, Elodie Lorandi of France finishing in 2 minutes 39.28 and Poland’s Katrzyna Pawlik in third.

Pascoe was in the leading three going in the wall after the first lap but pulled away slowly in the backstroke lap before gaining a significant lead in her favoured breaststroke and the clearing away even further in the freestyle.

An exhausted Pascoe struggled for words at the completion of her win.

“I don’t know what to say. I gave it everything out there. I’m too tired to think or say anything. It’s so fantastic to win,” said Pascoe

It is the third medal for Pascoe after her gold in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the 100m butterfly. She is scheduled to compete in the 100m backstroke on Saturday.
