Alaska might be the last place you'd expect Pacific youth to get involved in gangs, but it seems the problem is creeping into the North American State.

The shooting of a 23-year-old man by a group of youths at a gas station has forced the community to front up to an increasing gang presence, with Pacific youth right at the heart of it.

Bianca Slota, a local TV reporter in Anchorage whose been covering the story, says there's no doubt authorities have their hands full with troubled youth.

And the church is being singled out by an Achorage youth worker as an answer to the gang problem.

Ma'o Tosi, who runs the Poly Pride Club, which tried to keep kids out of gangs, says the solution has to start within the Polynesian community.

New Zealand musicians Savage and Aradhna both took part in a youth forum in California recently, in a bid to help reach there who've fallen into gang life.
