After a three-year absence from Air New Zealand Fashion Week, Kylee Davis makes a triumphant return with her new label Stitch Ministry.

The new Stitch Ministry collection, “The Lighter Side of Dark” is a modern take on an age-old theme and is set to continue the critical and commercial success of the fledgling label.

Stitch Ministry’s ‘civilisation of savage worlds’ explores two opposing cultures and the new fashion aesthetic that emerges. Classic silhouettes, fringe detailing and structural shawls dominate the look and feel of the winter collection.

Earlier this year designer Kylee Davis travelled through Asia’s fashionable cities and a new dress code emerged. The inspirations were incorporated to develop a collection influenced by international trends – both past and present.

Traditional check fabrics reminiscent of royalty are increasingly popular for the coming winter season and various check styles have been included in ‘the lighter side of dark’ collection. An ingenious mixing of fabrics delivers remarkable knitwear that has become the signature style of Stitch Ministry’s designs. The core theme is at the forefront of all Stitch Ministry collections.

Previously the head designer at Insidious Fix, Kylee Davis says her return to fashion week with a stronger, more mature label is a new milestone for her career.

“It was a difficult process moving away from Insidious Fix as it was a significant part of my life, but I am thrilled with the success of Stitch Ministry. To be returning to fashion week after such an absence makes me feel really good – and it’s an indication to the rest of our team that our hard work has been justified.”

Each season a new collaboration with an emerging New Zealand artist is included in the collection. This season Alysha Glover’s prints feature on a number of garments within the collection.

Winter ‘09 sees the introduction of Stitch Vitals, an exciting addition to the Stitch Ministry label which includes basic layering garments that will become fundamental elements to your wardrobe.

‘The lighter side of dark’ will be available nationwide through selected retailers, The Vault concept store and online at www.stitchministry.com from February 2009.
