FEILDING

“A brilliant job!”

That’s how Feilding Public Library Manager, Simon Johnson, describes the restoration of Kimbolton’s historic library which is being re-dedicated at a special community day on Sunday (September 21).

A dual restoration programme by pupils from Kimbolton School and members of the Kimbolton Community Committee has been underway since late June to reinstate the 117-year-old former settler’s cottage as one of the most appealing libraries in New Zealand.

“The library is a very important asset for the community,” said Mr Johnson, “apart from it being one of the few two-bedroom cottages left in the area. The children have done a great job in getting the community behind them on this worthwhile project.”

A full programme of events involving many of the town’s businesses and organisations has been arranged for Sunday to celebrate the occasion and the library’s role in the community. The grand re-opening ceremony is scheduled for 1pm.
Funds collected on the day will go towards refurbishing the inside of the library and for school library books.
