BOTANY TOWN CENTRE TO HOST PINK 4 HER2 EVENT TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER

Botany Town Centre is doing its part for women by hosting the Pink 4 HER2 event, a student event production initiative organized through the Event Management Programme at AUT University. The event takes place on the Botany Town Centre stage in Town Square on Saturday 27 September from 10am to 2pm.

Every year between 350 and 400 New Zealand women are diagnosed with HER2 positive – a form of breast cancer – at an early stage. The women receiving this diagnosis also have to face the financial challenges of treatment, for which the drug Herceptin is often recommended by oncologists.

PINK 4 HER2 has been set up by the charitable organization Skip For Life, which holds many events each year to raise awareness and funds for treatment. Between $70,000 and $100,000 is needed for a woman to undergo a 12-month course of Herceptin.

AUT Lecturer Alison Booth says the event is an opportunity for families to come out to Botany Town Centre and enjoy a day that will be educational and fun. “This is a fitting day for families because breast cancer is a disease that affects so many Kiwi families. This is an entertainment show that will include music and activities for the whole family.”

The fun-filled event will include an extensive line-up of talented entertainers from around the country such as Jackie Clark, the new Popera Group ‘Eve’, and many more.

Botany Town Centre Senior Centre Manager Jennifer Manning says the centre is proud to be hosting the Pink 4 Her2 event. “We are delighted to support the Skip For Life cause. The event will help to raise awareness about this charity and the great work it does. It will be an educational and enjoyable day for all, and a great event for families.”

Alison says, “The aim of the event is to create awareness, but any money contributed to Skip For Life on the day will go directly to women who are unable to pay for Herceptin treatment. This is a lifeline to assist those women who are funding the recommended 12-month treatment.”

Skip For Life merchandise will be available to purchase at the event, and donations can be made to collectors with buckets. Alternatively, a $20 donation can be made to the Skip For Life charitable trust by phoning 0900 4 HER 2.

About Skip For Life
Skip for Life is a charitable organisation formed to assist those who are battling with the early Her2-positive breast cancer and who choose to undergo a twelve month course of Herceptin. With a lack of state funding, these women must face the financial dilemma of raising between $70,000 and $100,000 for a full course of Herceptin. All the money collected for Skip For Life goes directly to the women dealing with early Her2-positve breast cancer.
