Andy Booth unveils New Holden V8

V8 driver Andy Booth unveiled his brand new Big Ben Pies sponsored Holden Commodore V8 in Auckland last night prior to it taking to the track at Taupo this weekend for the first round of the NZV8 Championship Series.

The car replaces the previous model campaigned by Booth and AV8 Motorsport for the last five NZV8 Championships, winning the title twice.

Booth is looking forward to getting down to some actual racing. “We had our first track test on Wednesday at Pukekohe which was just a shakedown run but all indications are that the new car has real potential.”

“We will have a clearer picture of the Commodore’s capabilities after the first round when we have more data and experience with the car which is likely to react quite differently to the old one,” he said.

Designed by Luke Dinsdale in collaboration with the AV8 Motorsport senior technical team of Wayne Anderson and Steve Birdling, the car has taken six months to plan, design and build using the latest in NZV8 design technology.

The new car incorporates the latest NZV8 rule updates including suspension, gearbox and engine changes. A new roll cage has been designed for improved safety and the model is lighter, stiffer and stronger than its predecessor with a lower centre of gravity and improved weight distribution. This makes it more responsive to set up changes allowing better tuning for each track.
