The Wanaka Community Board is asking the Upper Clutha community to reconsider the Wanaka Aquatic Centre Facility Mix to help advance the design process once a site is confirmed, WCB chairman Lyal Cocks said.

“We need to finalise the facilities mix so that when the community has agreed on a site for the aquatic centre the design process can commence immediately,’ Mr Cocks said.

The Wanaka Aquatic Centre Working Party was established in 2005 to consider the community’s Aquatic Centre needs and a possible location. It had more recently held joint meetings with the Wanaka Sports Facilities Working Party and undertaken the following work:

Engaged consultant David Allan of Global Leisure to review and update the 2005 Facilities Mix report (subject of this current consultation).
Updated and reviewed the earlier work on site evaluation. The WACWP in conjunction with the Community Board has decided to revisit the site evaluation when both the Wanaka Campground and the sports field and aquatic centre co-location reports are available.

The revised recommended facility mix is from the August 2008 Usage Projections and Facilities Mix Report prepared by Global Leisure. The full report can be viewed on the Council’s website www.qldc.govt.nz

“The working party particularly needs your input into: the number of lanes in the lap pool; the size of the learners and therapy pools proposed at 15m by 6m; any other facilities you would like included that are not currently listed and if there are any facilities that you consider are not needed,” Mr Cocks said.

An information flyer and feedback form was available at the Wanaka council office or on the council website.
