Problem Gambling Foundation open dedicated service
Manukau City will tomorrow welcome the opening of a dedicated service by the Problem Gambling Foundation to eliminate harm from gambling.
This service opens on the back of over 7000 submitters to the Gambling Policy review at Manukau City who overwhelmingly stated their abhorrence for pokies.
Gambling costs Manukau City a fortune. In the year ending March 2008 $76, 861,539 was lost through gambling. PGFNZ knows that only 5% of the population plays pokies regularly, which means this 5% potentially lose $4673p.a. each.
PGFNZ's service will provide counselling for problem gamblers and their families, and also continue to work with the community on eliminating gambling harm through its public health work.
The opening will be attended by Community Leaders and City Councillors as well as other stakeholders who have an interest in eliminating gambling harm from Manukau.
