The sun is shining, the days are longer and people are out and about…getting hit by trees??!! Franklin District Council says that it is this time of year when everyone, Council included, has to be careful to monitor spring growth and keep tree and shrub growth away from footpaths.

“Spring growth can be hard to keep up with, especially when we are used to so little growth over winter. However once hedges and trees start growing again they can quickly threaten to take over the footpath. Together we need to make sure these are kept clear,” says Franklin District Council’s Land Transport Manager, Dawn Inglis.

For their part, Franklin District Council asks its contractor to monitor and trim trees on Council owned land and road verges at this time of year. It also encourages anyone who thinks a Council owned tree is starting to take over the footpaths to call and let them know on 09 237 1300.
