Outstanding Citizens Recognised
Ten Waitaki District residents will receive Citizens’ Awards this month.
Alan Aitken, Diana Caldwell, Colin Dorsey, Joan Illingworth, Alan Kerby, Margaret MacLeod, Sharon Reeves, Stephen Reeves, Barbara Simpson and Les Whyte will be presented with their awards at a special ceremony to be held at the Hall of Memories at Waitaki Boys High School on Tuesday 4 November.
There were 22 nominations considered this year and this is a true indication of the high calibre of people recognised who are quietly assisting others in our community, and a unique opportunity to recognise their individual efforts.
The criteria for nominations were: “People who have made a significant contribution to the well-being of the Waitaki District and its citizens.”
There are a great many people in our District who provide, or have in the past provided, a long and unselfish service to many areas of the community, and yet these people are often unknown outside of the areas to which they have given such unstinting service. The Citizens Awards are always a wonderful opportunity for nominators to get together and put forward a nomination for that special person.
To find out in detail how each of the recipients has made their own special contribution to our community, you are most welcome to visit the Customer Services Unit at Council's Head Office in Thames Street. A display will be set up from 5 November to 12 November, profiling each of our worthy recipients.
