In a joint announcement, Franklin District Mayor, Mark Ball and Counties Manukau Rugby Chairman, Matthew Newman, are delighted to advise that Franklin District Council has approved funding for lights at Growers Stadium as the first step in an overall Recreation Hub development in the Stadium Drive area.
“Long term we are looking at multi-use facilities based around Growers Stadium which will cater for hockey, athletics and other community activities. Representative rugby will be a cornerstone activity, and as a first step we have to make sure “The Steelers” are able to play all of their home games in Pukekohe next season.”

They went on to say, “with the funding confirmed the first hurdle in the race to have the Counties Manukau Steelers playing all of their home games at Growers Stadium next season has been overcome. But there are still a few hurdles to jump before we can say it is a certainty. The next step is to complete the lighting design and get all of the necessary approvals signed off. Once that process is complete, and with a deadline of end of June 2009, we will need a very efficient project team to get the job completed on time.”
