Plenty more finals for New Zealand swimmers in Singapore
Kiwi swimmers are through to a further 16 finals on the second night of the FINA World Cup in Singapore overnight (NZ time).
It will be a busy night for Wellington’s Steven Kent, who has qualified in three finals – the 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.
West Auckland’s Brett Newall will feature in two finals - the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley, as will his club mate Matt Woodrow in the 200m freestyle and 1500m free, Melissa Ingram (SNZ High Performance) in the 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke, fellow Beijing Olympian Daniel Bell (West Auckland) in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle and Taranaki’s Dylan Dunlop-Barrett in the 200m backstroke and 1500m freestyle.
Best performed in today’s heats was Southland sisters Joyce and Natalie Wiegersma. Joyce was second fastest to Australian Olympic gold medalist Bronte Barrett in heats of the 400m freestyle in 4:18.36 and younger sister Natalie, second fastest in the 200m breaststroke in 2:35.56.
Ingram was fourth fastest in the 100m backstroke and fifth fastest in the 400m freestyle, cruising through her heat as she chasing a second straight win in this race after her success in Sydney last weekend.
Others through to finals include Mark Herring (West Auckland) fifth fastest in the 50m freestyle and Kane Radford (Aquatx Rotorua), third fastest qualifier for the 1500m freestyle.
