Head Coach of the Manawatu Jets, Tim McTamney, is excited and with good reason.

The Manawatu Jets have added a major player to their already improved 2009 squad in signing starting Hawkes Bay point guard, Aidan Daly.

With at least 12 weeks until tip-off in the first round of the National Basketball League (NBL), signing Daly has cemented the Jets squad as true contenders of the competition.

"Aidan is a fantastic signing for us, and with Ben Hill already signed, this is an enormous step in the right direction to bring a first ever NBL title to the Manawatu."

"Aidan is an outstanding, experienced point guard and will provide a lightning guick catalyst for our transition game. He is still arguably the fastest player in the NBL and fits perfectly with the style of basketball I intend us to play in 2009."

McTamney believes Daly will provide a lot of experience and leadership, two qualities that he has illustrated with great effect during his time with former team the Bay Hawks.

"Not only is Aidan a very good basketball player, but he will also provide leadership and has the potential to make everyone around him more effective as well."

"He has tremendous basketball ability and is a great guy which will fit in perfectly with the group culture that we are trying to mould. I know he is excited about being a Manawatu Jet and our players and coaching staff are really excited about welcoming him into the mix."

Aidan arrives in the Manawatu in December after finishing his current teaching role in the Hawkes Bay. Another major signing is expected for the Manawatu Jets in the near future.
