Taupo Lakers team get ready to compete

The team of twelve top competitors have been chosen and are looking forward to representing Taupo pride in the Top Town competition
 

Trials held earlier this week saw 40 locals descend on the Taupo Events Centre to try out for Taupo’s top town team.

Clr Mike Downard said “that was a fantastic turnout given the relatively short notice. The level of fitness and skill on show that night confirmed that Taupo is spoiled for choice when it comes to talented sportsmen and women. Everyone who turned up was competitive and this made it extremely hard for the judges to narrow it down, but I think we have ended up with a good mix of skill and experience in the team, and some great personalities.”

The team are: Cara Astwood, Chris Henderson, Chris Lawson, Darrin Gale-O’Donnell, Hedley Darlington, Jane Williams, Kate Callaghan, Lance Wylie, Lisa Misisa, Samantha Farr, Tania Williams and Tim Moore.

“We plan to have our first training session as a team early next week so we can start to build that team spirit and get to know each others strengths,” Mike said.

The team will be travelling to Christchurch and will be competing on Tuesday 2 December at Jellie Park. They are keen to get all the support they can so if you are able to be in Christchurch that week and can get along to Jellie Park, contact Anna at Council on 3760084 for tickets to the event.
