PUKEKOHE

A good showing at the second round of the Suzuki New Zealand Production Racing Championship had temporary driver David Silverton smiling hard after all was said and done last weekend.

"The car was good but I think there is still some more speed to get out of it after only just two rounds. I had a lot of fun this weekend but I was a little nervous about damaging the brand new race car." said David Silverton shortly after the third and final race.

Jumping into the hot seat as a fill-in driver for car owner and regular pilot Mark Joblin, David Silverton found enough pace in the car to take a fourth overall in the Class B championship for the weekend at Pukekohe Park Raceway.

Quickly finding his way in the brand new Classic Cover Insurance Skyline 350GT, the NZPRS rookie found over three and half seconds in the car by Sunday morning's race two, a whopping improvement from qualifying the previous day.

Silverton qualified the Skyline with a best lap of one minute 12.704 seconds only to improve on that to achieve a personal best for the weekend of one minute 9.309 seconds in only his second race in the car.

With strong results for the weekend including a sixth in class on Saturday afternoon followed by a fourth on Sunday morning and fifth in the final race he secured a fourth overall in class showing that the new Nissan has some potential for the remaining five rounds of the season's championship.

David Silverton has been friends with owner Mark Joblin for a few years with the two of them regular competitors in the classic Formula Fords.

"The weekend was fun and this weekend coming I'm off to jump back into my Formula Ford at Manfeild which gives me just as much track time but is a little easier on my wallet." said Silverton.

David Silverton brings more than just driving talent to the Classic Cover Insurance team in the form of support from Colour Works Powdercoating, a company specialising in colouring such products as aluminium window systems under the APL umbrella.

Next for the team and the Classic Cover Insurance Skyline 350GT is round number three held at Powerbuilt Raceway Ruapuna over the weekend of 28-30th November.

Owner driver Mark Joblin returns to pilot the race car after a short hiatus due to a minor operation to his toe which prevented his competing at Pukekohe.
