Bay of Plenty - Gang brawl

Disorder, King St Whakatane. Whakatane Police responded to a brawl involving 20 - 30 gang members in King Street Whakatane shortly after 3pm this afternoon. It is unknown what sparked the brawl which lasted 3 -5 minutes with combatants using fists, sticks and sidewalk signs. Police deployed O/C Spray to assist in bringing the disorder under control. Six arrests were made at the scene with more arrests likely. The two gangs have been separated and dispersed, further outbreaks of violence between the two groups is not anticipated.
