On October 11th, some 2,800 pink-winged breast cancer supporters gathered together in the Auckland Domain under a starlit sky for the third annual Dove Pink Star Walk, to raise awareness and funds for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).

Celebrities including Katrina Hobbs, Samantha Hayes, Jeanette Thomas, Nerida Lister and Shane Cortese led the group of men, women, children and pets on a picturesque 5km leisurely walk through the Auckland Domain, which was illuminated pink for the occasion.

Groups and individuals entered into the spirit of this worthy cause by decorating and donning their very own pink Dove wings and glowing pink attire. When the last pink-clad participant crossed the finish line prizes were awarded for the best pink costumes and the biggest and best pair of wings.
Participants were treated to a dazzling fireworks display lighting up the night sky; and a special performance by Annabel Fay also helped to make the night a success by entertaining walkers while they enjoyed the exciting atmosphere in the Domain.

Commenting on the Dove Pink Star Walk, Heather Shotter, Executive Trustee of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation said, “We were delighted with the turn out for the third year of the walk. It is a very special event as the different outfits and decorations worn by participants illustrate how every woman’s experience of living with breast cancer is personal and unique to her. The walk also shows us that for every woman who is diagnosed there are friends, family and colleagues who will share her journey and urge her on.”

As Silver Partner of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, Dove is thrilled to announce that The Dove Pink Star Walk raised over $45,000 for The Foundation, up on the $40,000 raised by the 2007 event.

Proceeds from the walk will help to fund research for prevention and cure, whilst acknowledging the 2,400 women who are diagnosed with and the 600 women who die of breast cancer each year in New Zealand.
