Move over calendar girls, we’ve got twelve hot blokes to brighten up 2009

The Lake Taupo Volunteer Rural Fire Force is launching a 2009 Calendar to raise money for more fire fighting equipment.

Rural Fire Chief Phil Parker says the proceeds from the calendar will be used to purchase a new portable pump and more fire fighting equipment “we spent the last locals day at Huka Jet cooking over 500 sausages to get some extra funding and someone came up with the idea to put together a calendar as another way of raising money. We thought we would have a bit of fun with it and show a bit of skin - the end result has turned out to be quite raunchy, but most of our wives are okay with it,” he said.

Mr Parker says Rural Fire is partly funded from the District rates and government funding but there is always a need to supplement this. The squad consists of nine volunteers and one fire truck based in Taupo and Omori also has a strong squad of 12 volunteers.

The fire-fighters from Taupo who feature in the calendar all work for the Taupo District Council Mr Parker says “rural fire are community based and rely on volunteers, we are very lucky to have such community focussed people willing to give their spare time to fire fighting – and now to put themselves out there in tasteful, but quite revealing photos.”

Copies of the calendars are now available from the Taupo Isite, and also from Council at $10 each, “we think they will make the perfect Christmas gift,” he said.
