The New Balance Great Lake Relay is on again 21st February 09 around the beautiful shores of Lake Taupo.
Teams of ten – eighteen members either run or walk to complete the eighteen 5.2 – 14.4km legs. Renown as the ultimate team building event held on one of the most scenic courses in the world the relay hosted 6000 starters in 2008 and organisers, Event Promotions, are expecting a record field for 2009.
Why not get a group of work mates, friends or family organised and spend a fun weekend together. Whether it’s burning off the odd Christmas calorie, achieving a new personal goal or just having a great time together – you won’t be disappointed.
All participants are in with a chance to win $150,000 worth of spot prizes and giveaways including a sport Blokart, Home & Leisure outdoor furniture, fabulous New Balance product and much more. The prize-giving at 7pm is followed by a party with a live band, where you have the opportunity to celebrate your achievements and get together with other teams that you have meet around the course.
The relay also incorporates the Athletics New Zealand 100km Championship where individuals run a full 100km solo endeavouring to win this prestigious title and trophy.
The 2 x 50km team event has also been re-introduced which allows teams of two to run or walk 50km each over the same course as the 100km individual competitors.
