SKYCITY Starlight Symphony announces kiwi star to headline the event

 SKYCITY Starlight Symphony will present an impressive programme attracting thousands to the Auckland Domain on Saturday February 21, 2009 to enjoy the SKYCITY free public event.

This year’s feature headliner is New Zealand’s own singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser. An international star, Fraser has toured the world with her songs, performing in America, Japan, the UK and Australia. She is returning to New Zealand to play exclusively at SKYCITY Starlight Symphony.

Fraser is celebrated in New Zealand for the success of her two number one albums What to Do With Daylight and Albertine. The former has been certified seven times Platinum while Albertine is four times Platinum in New Zealand and certified Gold in Australia.

SKYCITY’s Chief Executive Nigel Morrison, says that SKYCITY is a proud sponsor of the popular community event. “SKYCITY Starlight Symphony is great for tourism, it’s great for entertainment and it’s great for our city. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring world-class entertainer Brooke Fraser back to New Zealand.

“We are also delighted to announce Mark Sainsbury and Wendy Petrie will, once again, host next year’s event.”

Since its inception, SKYCITY Starlight Symphony has supported a local charity. This year’s recipient is Make-A-Wish New Zealand that grants the cherished wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. The Foundation granted approximately 160 wishes last year and hopes to increase that number in 2009 and encourages all New Zealanders to share in the power of a wish.

The event celebrates classical and contemporary music, with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Marc Taddei and the ever-popular SKYCITY Massed Choir, conducted by John Rosser. The SKYCITY fireworks finale and Mercury Energy lasers will once again finish this evening of fine entertainment.

SKYCITY encourages families, friends and everyone who loves music, to pack a picnic basket and head to the Domain to experience a starry summer’s night at Auckland’s premier event, SKYCITY Starlight Symphony.
