The official Queenstown Lakes District Council blue rubbish bags will need to be supplemented with an unprinted version for three weeks over Christmas after problems were identified with the supply.

“The official printed blue bag is supplied by a company called Elldrex. The problem came to the Council’s attention when it was notified of unfilled back orders by retail outlets,” Mr Kunath said.

Elldrex had taken responsibility for the delay to supplies and apologised to the council.
“We have worked through an interim arrangement with the company to ensure that we do have an ample supply of bags through the busy holiday period,” Mr Kunath said.
As a way of compromise the company would supply the standard blue bags, which were not able to be printed, to outlets in the area, together with a flyer inserted in each bag giving collection details that would normally be printed on the bags.
It had undertaken to make a delivery of the unprinted bags prior to Christmas.

“I would like to assure everyone that in the meantime the ‘unprinted official version’ will be accepted by the council, its collection contractors and its transfer stations,” Mr Kunath said.

The company had committed to resuming the delivery of the normal printed blue bags from 14 January.
