Water restrictions are a fact of life for many Coromandel communities over the summer but we can all play a part in helping restrict the severity of them by conserving water whenever possible.

A handy new calculator has just gone live on the Thames-Coromandel District Council website that will help you work out how your household compares when it comes to daily water use.

“It’s been calculated that the average household uses 250 litres of water per person per day,” says TCDC Operations Manager Greg Hampton, “but when you take into account that the average holiday home in Matarangi, for example, had just over seven people staying on New Year’s Eve last summer – that’s potentially a massive 1750 litres of water being used a day.

He encouraged all households to take the smart water use calculator test – and then follow the tips on the website on how to reduce the amount of water they are using.

The smart water use calculator and the current water restrictions can be accessed at http://www.tcdc.govt.nz/Services/Summer+Information/.
