Smart Kiwi Wins Penang's NZB Trophy
Smart young Kiwi galloper Big Red Point won the New Zealand Bloodstock Trophy (1200m) in Malaysia on December 21, a race that was postponed after the Penang Turf Club's Group 1 Sprint Trophy meeting was rained out earlier in the year.
Aptly flying the flag for the Kiwis on raceday, it was Karaka graduate Big Red Point (Viking Ruler - Tina Temple, by Diamond Express) who took out the NZB sponsored race by half a length in a time of 1.12.00.
The grey gelding broke his maiden in the event after running second in his previous two career starts, and he has earned owners Inter Stable M$33,300 to date.
Big Red Point was purchased at the Karaka 2007 Ready to Run Sale by trainer Tiang Kim Choi from Les Temple for $36,000. The gelding is the first foal of Temple's versatile race mare, Tina Temple, winner of six races in New Zealand from 1300m to 2100m.
Tina Temple's second foal, a bay filly by One Cool Cat (Storm Cat), will be offered at Lot 898 on account of Walnut Hill Farm at the 2009 Karaka Select Sale.
