Buildings fall as Council Gets Ready for Road Improvements

Late last year number 2 Golding Road fell under the swinging arm of a bulldozer as Franklin District Council prepared the site for long term roading improvements to the Golding Road, East Street and Belgium Road intersection. The intersection has been the site of several serious crashes and number 2 Golding Road is a big part of Council’s plan to change that.
It is proposed that during the 2009-2010 financial year the property will be key in changing the intersection to one controlled by a roundabout. The benefits of this will be numerous says Franklin District Council’s Group Manager Works and Services, Barry Bergin.
“A roundabout will slow traffic as it approaches the township, creating a nice entry point from rural Pukekohe East. It will greatly improve the safety of the intersection and with time could be used to connect any future Pukekohe Eastern Arterial to East Street.”
The property was acquired in early 2008 by Franklin District Council. During the year it was used for fire fighting training when the buildings were filled with smoke to create a realistic training environment. Items of historical interest from the homestead were also donated to the Franklin Historic Society including an old coal range and cast iron bath.
