In order to give affected schools time to assess student transport requirements and negotiate a commercial contract with a service provider, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has approved interim funding to subsidise the cost of some secondary school services for Term 1 of 2009.

These services will be delivered by Nimon and Sons Ltd and Go Bus.

Nimon’s will provide transport to the school gate, while Go Bus will provide services which mirror the public urban routes. Times, pick-up and drop-off points will be exactly as they were last year.

The single cash fare on Nimon’s school services will be $2 per student or $1.50 for a ten-trip ticket single fare.

The single cash fare on Go Bus school services will be the same as on public urban services, $1.50 per student or $1.20 for a ten-trip ticket single fare.

From the beginning of Term 2 schools will be required to have commercial contracts in place to deliver these services.

Hawke's Bay Regional Council is responsible for providing public urban bus services. The Ministry of Education is responsible for providing school bus services for pupils outside defined urban areas. All other school transport is the responsibility of the school and individual parents.

For any other details parents and students should talk directly to their school.
