DANNEVIRKE

Hi-vis jackets are now back in Dannevirke High St signalling the resumption of work by Infracon sub contractor, Creations Paving Ltd.

About 154 paver bands are to be laid in the footpaths from the southern end near the BP Station to Gordon St followed by cleaning, sanding and sealing. A similar number of these decorative bands will be laid in the asphalt footpaths in the side streets. To assist the sight impaired, tactile pavers will be installed at all 31 pedestrian crossings points.

This work plus installation of remaining street furniture (seats, benches, rubbish bins and bicycle stands) should take about six to eight weeks.

Meanwhile the construction of the flagship installation, the Clock Tower, is progressing well with installation scheduled for mid February.

Chief executive Blair King said that the Christmas and New Year holiday lull in activities had been welcomed and had allowed local residents and visitors to appreciate the transformed streetscape.

And while two incidents of tree vandalism had dismayed residents it had not deterred local enthusiasm for the council initiated project.
