Central Districts and BLACKCAPS batsman Jamie How has been fined after hitting his stumps in frustration during the State Central Stags’ State Shield game against Otago last week at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth.

Umpires Barry Frost and Phil Jones filed a report following the game on Wednesday 21 January noting that after he had been bowled out first ball, How hit the stumps with his bat before walking off. The incident was reported as a breach of Rule 3a of the New Zealand Cricket Code of Conduct, relating to unacceptable behaviour.

Association Commissioner Roger Mori convened a hearing on the alleged breach and in his decision said that while the incident was unacceptable behaviour for a professional cricketer, he accepted that How’s action was a momentary lapse, and not a display of dissent. Mori viewed the incident as not serious and at the lower end of the scale and imposed a fine of $200.
