MANUKAU CITY

Manukau City Council is offering an exciting opportunity for budding young sailors to experience the thrill of sailing during the upcoming BMW Auckland Regatta Week.

The competition will provide a fantastic chance for 10 youth aged 15 to 17 years to sail, with a sailing coach, to and from the regatta courses on Saturday, 21 February.

To be in the draw to win, entrants need to answer the question ‘Who was the skipper for Team New Zealand in the last America’s Cup?’ and tell us in 50 words or less why they really want to take advantage of this sailing opportunity. Send your answer to events@manukau.govt.nz by 4pm on Friday, 13 February.

The winners will receive lunch on the day, learn lots about sailing and experience the exhilaration of watching the big boat action. By the end of the day four lucky people will be selected to go forward to the ‘Learn to sail on a keel boat’ course hosted by Bucklands Beach Yacht Club.

The BMW Auckland Regatta Week takes place from 20 to 22 February and is an initiative supported by Bucklands Beach Yacht Club and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron with sponsorship provided by Manukau and Auckland city councils.

Note to the editor:
The competition is only open for 15 to 17 years because of the age restriction on keel boat training.
