An advertising campaign built around the construction of a restaurant half way up the trunk of a tree has attracted discerning diners from around New Zealand, and media attention from around the world.

Yellow’s high-profile advertising campaign, which followed the Warkworth (North of Auckland) restaurant from drawing board to dinner service officially ends tomorrow (Monday 9th February), and the company’s marketing director, Kellie Nathan, said she has been overwhelmed by the response to the campaign.

“We’ve had 2,000 diners, with a further 5,000 on the waiting list, more than 210,000 visitors to our website yellowtreehouse.co.nz and over 600 comments posted on the blog.

“For us this has definitely been a huge success no matter which way you look at it and it’s a credit to everyone who worked with us on this amazing project.”

Ms Nathan said the campaign was all about proving that any mission, from building a barbecue in your back garden to building a restaurant in a tree, could be achieved using Yellow – the book, online or mobile.

Michelle Menzies from Takapuna says dining at the Yellow Treehouse was simply amazing.

“The experience was incredible. From the welcome we were given by the staff, to the five-course meal and local wines to match, all topped off by the chance to enjoy it 10 meters up a tree!

“The setting was idyllic and the actual design of the Treehouse was just breath taking. It made for a very intimate affair because it only holds about 20 people. It was a night to remember.”

Ms Nathan said Pacific Environment Architects’ design made an impact with design and lifestyle media around the world.

“Stories and pictures of the Treehouse have been requested by over 70 international publications including Marie Claire and FHM (Taiwan), GQ (Italy), Elle (Korea), Conde Nast Traveller and even Playboy (Germany).

“A staggering 10,000 websites and blogs have featured the Treehouse, including influential sites like Kanye West and The Times in the UK.

“The Treehouse was also featured on Korea’s KBS television channel which broadcasts to an audience of 50 million people, plus we also featured prominently on Tourism NZ’s website, all contributing to raising the profile of New Zealand overseas.”

So what will happen to the Yellow Treehouse next?

“One option we are looking at is making it available as a function venue. This will allow those who missed out on eating at the restaurant during the campaign to experience just how cool the Yellow Treehouse really is.”

Ms Nathan said these details were expected to be finalised in the next two weeks and published online at www.yellowtreehouse.co.nz
